The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Win at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification Could Fix That

Whenever a significant honors show draws close, there’s always a demand for the addition of new categories to honor underappreciated efforts and fill the passions of enthusiasts dedicated to specific genres.

Another commentator has already made supporting a scary games classification. That would be fantastic. So would tabletop games, which is someone's personal cause. Yet I need to apologize in advance when I prioritize just as with other blinkered fanatics, I possess a compelling case supporting my request stands as crucial and important of all. This is the request: It's essential to create a category for puzzle games.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Classifying creative works is not a science; it remains highly personal, and typically generate discussions and end in fuzzy definitions. It's understandable that movie academies avoid this approach. Yet it remains an essential concession in the world of interactive entertainment, that demonstrate such variety it's challenging to consider them a single creative category.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of interactive entertainment excellence to be recognized, and for games of all stripes to receive proper recognition, genre categories are essential.

Present Award Structure

The major gaming awards offer these classifications covering Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Collectively, these classifications actually cover numerous genres, making space possible accommodating various experiences.

Not so for puzzle games. No suitable classification appears to accommodate them. Think about these outstanding current releases, all very different: building puzzles from a specific release, the pulse-pounding block-matching from another release, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles in another game. Which classification works between these six categories? Unfortunately, nowhere.

The Representation Problem

There are dozens excellent brain-teasers published annually lacking appropriate categories in entertainment awards, unless they happen to qualify for categories like Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested independent game categories.

  • One classic puzzle game wasn’t nominated for anything that year
  • A different innovative game was excluded during that ceremony
  • Popular arranging title received no acknowledgment recently
  • Only a few logic titles managed to sneak into small studio or handheld classifications

Value of Brain-Teasers

These are often compact experiences, yet the craft behind logic titles is of massive significance. Famous handheld logic titles count as the most-played games worldwide continuing this trend for many years.

The legendary block-stacking game rivals popular creative games claiming status as highest-selling title ever; it also contends as greatest title ever. Logic titles represent cornerstones for gaming as medium, while interacting with diverse game types.

The Solution and Justification

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter such difficulty. One could readily select a field of five interesting, varied, worthy titles annually without trouble — actually, with challenge, since numerous excellent so many good games out.

And to reiterate, these are games without proper classification in important events. Logic title developers are working at the hard edge interactive creation, producing among most fundamental forms of the video game form. Comparable to film action specialists, they deserve recognition. Let’s not keep them waiting 35 years.
